PRESS RELEASE RIVERSCAPE

RIVERSCAPE | WHERE TWO WORLDS MEET
An audio-visual journey by two artists - Fabrizio Paterlini (Italian pianist and composer),
Kristel Schneider (Dutch Photographer living in Auvergne, France ).

After three years of preparation, the RIVERSCAPE project is born and paints an intimate portrait of one of the last wild rivers in Europe, the Allier. RIVERSCAPE travels the river from south to north and presents its magnificently diverse landscapes, the heterogeneity of the movement of its waters, the richness of its vegetation and its vulnerabilities. To bring her images to life Kristel Schneider called on the Italian composer and pianist Fabrizio Paterlini. It is with two voices that this exciting audiovisual journey begins.

‘The river, the lifeblood of our landscape’

While crossing the river Allier many times, glancing down quickly, Kristel Schneider got the idea for the RIVERSCAPE project as she was travelling from one part of the Auvergne to the other. She wanted to explore this river, the lifeblood of our landscape.  Kristel aims at creating intimate compositions to evoke a certain feeling, in the viewer’s mind, through her personal use of natural light and the rhythm of nature. And to emphasise these feelings, an added music component should definitely play a unique part in the visual portrait. Kristel often uses music while she works on her images, and Fabrizio Paterlini is one of her favourites on her headphones. So, the choice of a project partner was not very difficult to make, a perfect match for both genres of work and the exciting cooperation with Fabrizio Paterlini started (in 2020)

The end result is presented both jointly (photographs and music together) and separately (photographs or music): Kristel will publish her book RIVERSCAPE and present her eponymous exhibition (starting in 2024), while Fabrizio will produce a special edition of RIVERSCAPE music (vinyl record and CD). Both will be released mid-October 2023. The music will be available during the exhibition and the book will be available during Fabrizio's concerts in Europe and Asia, starting in fall 2023-2024.  Both are now available for pre-order, via their sites for a special discount price till the release date.

The book RIVERSCAPE wonderfully illustrates the sensitive relationship that one can have with this majestic river, from its source, passing through the powerful gorges of the Allier, to its more nonchalant course in the alluvial plain.

Kristel offers us her poetic look at this river around which all those who have been able to approach it, and take the time to observe it, have developed a strong, intimate and visceral bond. These images evoke the softness but also the power of this natural space, the strength of the living or mineral elements that compose it. The pure beauty of this work of art that nature offers us!
